The upcoming vivo V80 is putting its design front and center, with a new Starwish Purple finish that uses layered patterns and shifting reflections to give the smartphone a galaxy-inspired look.
vivo Philippines teased the device ahead of its local arrival, showcasing a colorway built around the company’s Laser Holographic Lithography technology. The process creates what vivo calls its True 3D Stellar Design, producing shimmering patterns across the phone’s back that change as light hits the surface from different angles.
Rather than relying on a flat purple finish, the V80’s rear panel is designed to create a more dynamic visual effect. Its reflections can look different under sunlight, indoor lighting or city lights, giving the colorway a changing appearance depending on its surroundings.
How vivo creates the V80’s galaxy-inspired finish
The Starwish Purple design centers on the interaction between light and the phone’s layered glass finish. According to vivo, its Laser Holographic Lithography technology produces patterns visible to the naked eye, creating the impression of depth across the back cover.
That treatment gives the colorway its distinctive look without requiring a separate accessory or external lighting effect. The finish itself provides the visual change, with reflections shifting as the phone moves or the viewing angle changes.
The design also reflects how smartphone makers continue to use materials, surface treatments and color options to differentiate devices beyond their core specifications. For the V80, vivo is emphasizing the rear panel as a defining feature before revealing further details about the Philippine model.
Glass construction adds to the design
The V80’s appearance extends beyond its purple finish. vivo said the smartphone uses an upgraded, one-piece cold-carved glass build designed to deliver a smooth feel when held.
The company also claims the glass surface resists dust buildup, helping the back maintain a cleaner appearance during everyday use. A floating camera module adds another visual element to the rear panel, complementing the layered patterns rather than leaving the design as a single uninterrupted surface.
Together, the glass construction, camera module and shifting finish give the V80 a design identity built around both texture and reflection. However, vivo has yet to provide further details in the announcement about the phone’s hardware, durability ratings or other specifications.
ENHYPEN members appear in Philippine teaser
vivo Philippines first offered a glimpse of the V80 in a Facebook post featuring Jake, Jungwon and Sunghoon of K-pop group ENHYPEN. The three were recently announced as vivo Friends, giving the teaser an additional connection to the brand’s fan audience.
The teaser offers an early look at the V80 ahead of its Philippine arrival, with vivo highlighting Starwish Purple as a defining feature of the upcoming smartphone.
