MWI 2025 Expands to 16 Teams, Making History in Women’s Esports
A Landmark Moment for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women’s Invitational (MWI) 2025 is set to be bigger than ever, bringing together a record-breaking 16 teams from around the world. As part of the 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC), this historic expansion highlights the rising influence of women in esports and the growing global reach of competitive gaming.
For the first time, Africa, Mongolia, and Türkiye will be represented, reinforcing MOONTON Games’ commitment to inclusivity and proving that women’s esports is thriving on an international scale. Taking place from July 15 to 19, this tournament will give female esports athletes the biggest platform yet to showcase their skills on a global stage.
Women’s Esports Takes Center Stage
MWI 2025 isn’t just another competition—it’s a statement.
With a $500,000 prize pool, this tournament is setting new records, becoming one of the largest prize pools in women’s esports history.
From 12 teams last year to 16 teams in 2025, the event is growing rapidly, demonstrating the widespread support for women in esports across 57 qualifying regions.
According to Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystem at MOONTON Games, this expansion is more than just numbers—it’s about empowerment.
“MWI at EWC 25 is our way of making sure women are seen, heard, and celebrated,” said Ng. “The tournament serves as a platform for women to shine at the highest level and opens the door to esports as a viable career path.”
By amplifying women’s voices worldwide, MOONTON Games is breaking barriers and establishing equal ground for women and men in esports.
MWI 2024: A Turning Point in Women’s Esports
The MWI 2024 tournament was a milestone moment, proving that women’s esports is not just growing—it’s thriving.
- It was the most-watched MWI tournament, amassing over 2.5 million Hours Watched
- It was the first edition to feature non-Southeast Asian teams, opening the doors to new talent
- It crowned Smart Omega Empress champions after they ended Team Vitality’s 24-match winning streak, dating back to 2021
This victory showcased that women in esports are more than just participants—they are game-changers.
MWI proved that female players can challenge the status quo, redefine expectations, and dominate the competitive landscape.
Expanding Women’s Esports on a Global Scale
MOONTON Games is determined to keep pushing boundaries.
Their initiatives go beyond MWI, with their long-standing commitment to inclusivity reflected in several major tournaments, including:
- The Asian Esports Games (AEG) 2024
- The IESF World Esports Championship (WEC) 2024
- The upcoming 33rd Southeast Asian Games
These events provide women athletes opportunities to compete internationally, proving that esports is a career path, not just a hobby.
“We’ve always aimed to make our tournaments reflect the diversity of the MLBB community,” said Ng. “Like how the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) at EWC 25 will now include more regions, we’re doing the same for MWI at EWC 2025. Women’s and men’s esports should stand on equal ground.”
MOONTON Games is committed to building an ecosystem where every esports athlete can thrive, compete, and represent their region with pride.
