Technology that Stands the Test of Time

Technology that Stands the Test of Time

Have you ever had a watch that stood the test of time? I do.

Over the years I have bought and either lost or damaged wristwatches. Some I gave away to my son. He likes it, what can a Dad do? But this watch in particular, which I had since I was in my teens, accompanied me in many of the most memorable times of my life. My college graduation, my first job interview. This watch reminded me that time was running as I take my Engineering Licensure exam. I still remember how it looks back then, with its worn out bracelet that I had replaced countless times. The glow in the dark feature, which was a hit back in the day.

I didn’t realize that I haven’t seen it for quite some time. I looked over my closet and it’s just right there. In a corner of my drawer, next to my die-cast aircraft collection. Covered in dust, I inspected its condition. The strap was broken, now I remember why I did not wear it for years. It’s an automatic, and the hands have stopped. It has been there for I think 5 years now. I haven’t worn it since then. It was my favorite watch and I love wearing it.

It is a Seiko 7002 Diver, with Pepsi bezels and a 150m depth rating. As soon as I picked it up, shook it a little bit. It started ticking again and all the good memories came back.

I was wearing it as Seiko celebrated the grand relaunch of the Seiko 5 Sports collection at the SMX Convention Center Aura, SM Aura Premier. Now a new set of Ambassadors was revealed to once again introduce this iconic watch to this new generation. Rodjun Cruz, Diane Medina, Khalil Ramos, Chu Calleja and Ben&Ben representing the 5 Seiko personas: Street, Sense, Suits, Sports, and Specialist, respectively.
