Nikon’s P1000 brings a massive 125X Optical Zoom

Now a topic near and dear to my heart, photography. Nikon just announced the successor of the CoolPix P900 the CoolPix P1000. Nikon’s latest not so “Compact” camera. The Coolpix P900 gives you 83x optical zoom which was groundbreaking at the time it was released the CoolPix P1000 now gives you 125x Optical Zoom. Let’s put in terms of the zoom range of the camera the camera offers you 24mm to 3000mm effective zoom. You most likely will need a monopod if you are going to use the camera at extreme ranges and in low light conditions. The video will give you a quick look at the camera.

The P1000’s lens only opens up to f/8 at the long end versus f/6.5 on the P900, but that tradeoff may be worth it for the extra reach — at that focal length, you’ll want to use a tripod anyway. Both cameras’ lenses start at f/2.8 and are paired with an understandably small 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch sensor. The camera can shoot 4K video at 30 frames per second, has an OLED electronic viewfinder, supports RAW image capture, and works with Nikon’s SnapBridge Bluetooth image transfer system. It weighs 3.1 pounds / 1.4 kilograms.
